raffiano

It happened, as it always does, one House cannot settle some affair through words or debate, or manipulation, and its come to declaration of some formal Feud. Thus, Raffiano has been a little more sober than usual the last couple of days. Not meandering markets or the docks, as much at least. Rather than only going to the Spettacolo for sparring and training, he's generally in the company of a house friend or another. Not so much guards as comrades for Raffiano. Today is no different. He's under an archway of the Ponte, and instead of looking out over the Merzia River, he's more eyeing those who come and go. More than eyeing even, its sort of like Mad Dogging. Like he expects everyone is some culprit. Sword at his side per usual, and its probably evident his clothes are a little stuffy with some sort of armor as well, being that it is Vindicti and all. Some leather at best most likely, but a little protection just in case.
He's doing another favorite past time, eating an apple. On the bridge no less, but this one is fresh, he's only taking his second bite now, *CRUNCH*. He chomps the fruit of the trees, looking at a particular merchant passing on his way to the markets due west from here. Nothing suspicous, he comments to his friend, "I'm sure it'll end up, we'll stack agains Gaspari during the festival. Mark my words, we'll be at a loss to count the daggers in that stack." A slight chuckle between them, and they nod, his friend goes to stand post somewhere else for now as they monitor the bridge for Paragons know what.

For Isabella, all these talks of vindicte and honor, the ramblings of men who have either too much time or not enough. That is how the maid phrased it for another recently. The woman however intends to carry about her normal business which does have her crossing the various bridges of markets and conducting the trade she usually does for the more important items bequeathed her task. Her sunny disposition, lessened with the news of conflict, still attempts to shine as she makes her way. The Contessa had nearly insisted on some kind of escort, but Isabella had politely declined through her ways so that she could shop without anyone bearing over.

It really had nothing to do with the guards of the city, the Wyvern Company. Death was always a possibility though and that wasn't honorable at all and so their only instruction had been to watch for some 'overkill' or something to that effect. Still, it didn't concern her so much and Carina, even if on duty, paid not much mind to the whisperings around her about the active Vindicti. Catching sight of one of the Albrici known to her, she catches that mean mugging sort of look and smirks as she walks over. "You look effectively fierce, Signore Albrici. Are you and your friends here just to avoid trouble or actively looking for it?" There's amusement though, nothing official or serious about her. A glance around has her catching sight of Isabella crossing the bridge, but she doesn't look familiar to her, or from one or the other houses.

There he is, watching and then is approached by the guard from Wyvern Company. He pauses long enough in his searching to look at here, a mischevious smile on his fase. "Signora Carina Asulf, I would never activally seek out trouble." Given with all the muster that on any good night he might seek it out, and she's heard tail end of some of his stories at least to give it some credit. "Always on my best behavior." Then he looks out and gives pause, only thankful for the recent market enounter, otherwise he might not even notice. He perks up and says, "Signora, excuse me, duty calls. Trouble avoidance." As if to assure, and he certainly steps out onto the bridge proper. "Gaspari," he calls, to get her attention, "Are you not the Contessa's hand maid?" He doesn't know the exact pretence, but he has to ponder, "You're sent to conduct business? Because it is known the Conte cannot be trusted in such dealings?" It seems more a taunt at best, to show he's not having anything to do with Gaspari maybe.

*

Isabella, who had made her way to one of her preferred fish vendors paused in middle of transaction, a small smile touching the corners of her lips. With a soft sigh she speaks softly towards the vendor then turns, looking at the man who lifts his voice at her. "I do not presume to know the Conte's business. I can only assume that it is far more important than lurking upon a bridge and harassing house help who are buying fish." The words carry the exotic lilt of her accent and a far too humble tone to them. The woman's dark eyes look, almost with hidden challenge, at Raffiano.

For a moment after Raffiano excuses himself, Carina says nothing, just waiting and listening to the exchange he offers the woman. House help, she says? "Oh, no, not actively seeking trouble at all." The words are only murmured mostly to herself. It does have her backing off and just casually keeping watch of the situation without actively participating. Nope, she's just there to observe this time and speaks nothing more to either of them.

*

A hint of the sting there, he's stooped to tossing an insult at the house help, as his brow furrows a little, but there is still pride. Yet, not quite enough to completely turn his intentions. "What, no trouble at all," responds Raffiano with a look over his shoulder to the Red Cloak of the Wyvern Guard. A slight grin, "We prefer skulking to lurking, let the dogs of Gaspari know that Albrici honors its contracts." Realizing he if actually goes more insulting, he could well come out the bigger fool. A slight turn, "And if you grow tired of service to the likes of Gaspari, I am certain Albrici could honor a contract with one such as you. Who could truly argue the enjoyment of fish?" It seems half as much, he's come out to look around, what if Guard are lurking, what if she's the line and bait to pull him out. Of course, not everyone is quite so suspicious, but he does turn an eye to look about the same.

*

Isabella laughs softly and shakes her head, "While the offer is — amusing, it would of course be declined." The housemaid offers across the way. "Rather I would prefer to stay with my employer I have known since walking and her family that has done nothing but support, aid and offer of themselves to those in need of Matora." There's a pause, "Not that I can state if your family has or not, for I do not know such things. Only what I have witnessed for myself." Again, that sweet smile and she turns to the fish vendor to offer a few coin for the fish that has been wrapped.

Carina wasn't so worried about the supposed faults from one house to another, nor was she too apt to care about nobles griefing commoners in such mild ways. Still, she remains there against the wall, mostly listening, before her attention is called further along the way, more towards the mercato. Turning, she begins walking in that direction.

*

For his part, Raffiano seems in rather good spirits the same. As if this was just the way of houses in Matora. "Certainly, expected, but I would not be without my manners." To make such an offer, even if there was no weight either way to it, considering he doesn't truly decide for House Albrici. "Our offer to Matora is in support of those who can help themselves." Its more meant as a hope that those will rise who can, but probably comes off completely wrong. Or right, but it could be spun as wrong later if needed. Just a bit selfious, and he sort of turns from the fish vendor, as if she was helping him now even if it was all fair business. "I should not keep you from your charity to the needy of Matora though," he continues, foot in mouth, a glance around to see the turn of Carina to the markets. "Perhaps I should stop lurking and make myself more useful." To the city, instead of being a loaf-about, which he sort of is, come to think of it. "Not so fast Signora, I am in need of a chaperone, to assure I am not rousing trouble." A slight look to Isabelle, as he was instigating just a little.

*

Carina had already started heading towards the markets further along when she hears him hail her. Or assumes he means her. A sardonic look is given his way but she does slow her steps instead of stopping them all together. "It sounds like you were doing a fairly decent work of rousing trouble where someone else was determined not to let you get a rise from her.

PAUSE — Part II:

Well, whether she wanted it or not, Raffiano tacked along on the way to the market. Trouble averted. His friend probably lingers at the bridge, knowing Raffiano is here should some house to house trouble arise of course. He picks up talking like nothing ever happened. "So, you seek out trouble, and that was your curiousity of my intent was it?" A slight accusation, or a tease, more so considering she's with the Wyvern Company and its her duty in a manner to look out for trouble. Then he raises a brow, "Do you suspect trouble in the Markets? Good thing I'm here to help. Its sort of a way to see what you do here, as I consider the possibility to join with the Wyvern Company. Part of that duty as required per the contract?" He has no clue what the contract actually says.

*

His falling into step beside her doesn't seem to phase Carina one way or the other, but then he's back to the topics and the rapid fire questions much like the day before. So, at first she doesn't respond to anything until she is sure he was finished. With an amused look, she shrugs. "I just saw you and was going to say hello until I realized you were harassing the commoner." That part she's mostly kidding about if her expression is any indication. "There can most days be found trouble in the market, someone trying to get something for naught. And you are more than welcome to try and settle a disagreement should you wish, though your more lackadaisical demeanor may make it a touch more difficult." A wry twist of her lips. "Certainly part of the duties of the company."

*

A look of disbelief, him harassing a commoner, like it was beneath him. The snicker probably says otherwise. "What, if I had said nothing, the entire affair would have been un - noteworthy." A pause himself, is that a word. He's unsure but not rethinking it that much. "My demeanor you say, would make it difficult?" As if, he grins. "I would beg to differ. Anyone charming enough that could amuse me would certainly win any such decision from me." A pause a shrug, "Maybe that's why no one asks for my opinion so much. Then again, that is a good deal of responsibility. Upholding the law, it means if found guilty, you have to take them to the stocks right? Or the irons?" That would be difficult." He concludes on a slightly more serious look.

*

Garden has arrived.

*

Garden leaves, heading towards the Via Ovest [VO].

*

Garden has left.

*

"What I mean is that you seem to rarely take anything serious and when you do, I'm not sure if you really are serious or not. Such as the commoner earlier." Carina sweeps her hand towards him, "There, you make my point for me." Tilting her head to regard him. "If someone charmed you, then you would favor them despite the law?" She dips her head, "Sometimes a trial by sword, or iron, yes. Or stocks or irons." Nodding in return. "It is not a job for everyone, but there is also battles you fight in as well."

In the manner Raffiano generally teases, its second nature. "I could give a sign, so you know I'm serious. It will be our code. Not similar to the house code of Albrici." Like there was some hand gestures they used, during Vindicti or something, to not let others know their intention or something. "If it were serious, I would have to favor the law. No matter how much someone charmed me." A pause, "So if I every join this company of yours, you best not do much wrong. Just letting you know now, Signora, that smile of yours might charm me, but I'd have to arbitrate fairly." He's holding no interest in the market itself, but goes if she moves, or pauses if the stands still. "Now, for a good fight, that is more inticing to my joining with your merry band of ventura."

*

Carina finds his teasing about codes and hand gestures amusing even when she doesn't want to, finding herself giving a smile in response. A rare, real one. As he does turn more serious and talk about arbitration, she gives a somewhat solemn nod. She's still by the arched entrance and only allows her gaze to sweep over the interior for now. "I am one of the few honorable ones. I do things the way they are supposed to be done. I work with others who fleece business owners, though it is my word against his, so I can do nothing for it. I could play the fact I am noble and my compatriot is not, if I were certain he was not." She arches her brows. "I would meet you on the training field for a spar if you were interested sometime?"

*

There, a real smile, Raffiano notices the smile, and returns one. Not mirthful or off handed, but a smile of his own. If he's near a wall of the archway, he'll probalby help prop up the wall with a shoulder at some point. Crossing one leg over the ankle of the other to help get a proper lean there. "Perhaps your share the wrong company, I'm sure a few more are honorable as yourself Signora Carina," he was good just calling her the name, but if she is noble from wherever it is she is from, then its more fitting now, the title there. "I suppose it matters most for those who need the law the most, perhaps there is some ground in between, but in the matter of life or death, it is good one such as yourself is wearing the cloak." As she offers a challenge, Raffiano grins then, "Oh, you are challenging me, to see who amongst us two is bests at skill of arm. I cannot back down from such a challenge you realize. Next we are both free, let us retire to the field at the Spettacolo to attend this affair?"

*

The real smile suited him and Carina noticed it and admired it briefly without saying a word about it at all. As he gets more comfortable at the arch she does the same on the opposite, perhaps not as relaxed, but loosening up a little. "Carina is fine, I don't advertise my nobility." Leaving it sort of vague. "I am sure there are many others like me, but the bad seeds give some of us others a band name." There's a look off towards the west briefly. "A challenge? Maybe. Mostly just to see how we match up together in a spar."
